AlpVision SA is a Swiss company that provides digital technologies for detecting counterfeit products. The headquarter is based in Vevey (Switzerland) with offices in Shanghai (China) and Portland (USA).

History

AlpVision was founded in 2001 by Dr. Kutter and Dr. Jordan after they completed their Ph.D. at the EPFL in the signal processing laboratory of Pr. Murat Kunt.

After its foundation, the company first released several applications derived from founder's expertise in digital watermarking in images and video. Among them was the Cryptoglyph technology.[1] which is still used for the protection of documents, pharmaceutical products, automotive lubricants[2] and tobacco products.

AlpVision released in 2007 a fingerprint technology for the automatic recognition of molded plastic products and stamped precious metal[3]

AlpVision's products and solutions were progressively recognized out of Switzerland: the company was invited to contribute to the writing of EU regulations, was identified as a competitor in the SEC filing of 2 US public companies, the Cryptoglyph appeared in the glossary of standard security features of the US Government Printing Office, and used by the World Custom Organization. The AlpVision company is also listed in most international reports related to the anti-counterfeiting market.

In 2020, the company offered their solution for free for the counterfeit protection of all COVID-19 related medicines.

Brand Authentication Technologies

AlpVision has two core technologies:

  • Cryptoglyph: A pseudo-random pattern which is printed over labels and packages. The pattern consists either of small dots or small holes printed in varnish or visible color typically using offset, flexographic or rotogravure technologies. It is invisible for the naked eye. It is detected using a dedicated smartphone application which performs an analysis of the picture taken by the camera.
  • AlpVision Fingerprint: This technology uses the random patterns that already exist at the surface of plastic or metal products as a way to authenticate the product. The detection process is similar to the Cryptoglyph.
