Astute Systems is an Australian defence technology company headquartered in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Australia. The company develops AI-enabled computing systems and rugged hardware for defence and military applications.

History

Astute Systems was founded in 2024 by Ross Newman, a former chief engineer at Rheinmetall. The company emerged from The Precinct, an Advanced Queensland Initiative in Fortitude Valley having participated in the Ignite Spark [1] and Ignite+ Scale [2], Brisbane.[3]

In April 2024, Astute Systems announced a strategic alliance with Advent Atum to strengthen Australia's sovereign defence supply chain.[4]

In October 2024, Astute Systems launched the GXA-1 mission computer at Land Forces 2024 in Melbourne, followed by a European debut at DVD2024 in Millbrook, United Kingdom.[5][6]

Astute Systems was named a finalist in the Australian AI Awards in both 2024 and 2025, in the category of AI Innovator – Defence and National Security.[7][8]

Products

Astute Systems' flagship product, the GXA-1, is a modular, deployable mission computer powered by NVIDIA hardware designed for autonomous operations at the tactical edge. Built for SWaP-sensitive (Size, Weight, and Power) platforms, the GXA-1 is engineered to operate in extreme temperatures, moisture, vibration, and shock environments.[9]

Clients and Partners

Astute Systems supplies defence prime contractors including Rheinmetall, Thales, BAE Systems, and Hanwha.[11] International distribution in the United Kingdom is handled through Sarsen Technology.[12]

The company is a sister organisation to DefenceX, a Queensland-based defence technology firm.[13]
