Zhetisu


Zhetysu, Jeti-Suu[1][2] atau Semirechye (bahasa Kazakh: Jetisý, Жетісу, Pengucapan Kazakh: [ʑjɪtɪsə]; bahasa Kirgiz: Jeti-Suu, Жети-Суу, diucapkan [jetɪsu:] yang berarti "tujuh sungai"; juga dieja Zhetisu,[3][4] Jetisuw,[5][6] Jetysu,[7][8] Jeti-su,[9][10] Jetysu, Jeti-su, Jity-su, Жетысу, Джетысу dll.) adalah nama historis dari sebuah kawasan di Asia Tengah, yang meliputi tenggara Kazakhstan modern. Namanya berarti "tujuh sungai" (secara harfiah "tujuh air") dalam bahasa Kazakh, merujuk pada sungai yang mengalir di daerah ini menuju Danau Balkhash.
Ketika Zhetisu dianeksasi oleh Kekaisaran Rusia pada abad ke-19, daerah ini dikenal dalam bahasa Rusia (dan juga dalam bahasa-bahasa Eropa selama beberapa masa) sebagai Semirechye (bahasa Rusia: Семиречье), yang merupakan terjemahan bahasa Rusia dari kata Kazakh "Zhetisu". Nama tersebut juga dieja sebagai Semiryechye, Semirech'e, Semirechiye, Semirechie, Semirechensk atau Semireche.
Sekarang, Zhetisu termasuk dalam Provinsi Almaty yang merupakan bagian dari Kazakhstan. Jetysu («Seven Rivers» from Kazakh «jety» — «seven», «su» — «water») is a vast region in the historical and cultural aspect, located in the southeast of Kazakhstan. Jetysu is surrounded by steppes and foothills of Saryarka, Kazakh Altay, Central Asia and Eastern Turkestan.
