Poecilia adalah genus ikan dalam keluarga Poeciliidae dari ordo Cyprinodontiformes.[2] Orang Indonesia umumnya menyebut ikan ini sebagai umbrus, dan nama Inggris untuk ikan ini adalah molly. Ikan penyimpan telur ini berasal dari air tawar, payau, dan asin di Amerika, dan beberapa spesies dalam genus adalah euryhaline. Beberapa diantaranya telah beradaptasi untuk hidup di perairan yang mengandung hidrogen sulfida beracun dalam jumlah tinggi ( H2S ).[3]
