Torit, (Th,U)SiO4, adalah sebuah nesosilikat langka dari torium yang mengkristal dalam sistem tetragonal dan isomorf dengan zirkon dan hafnon. Mineral tersebut adalah mineral torium paling umum dan hampir selalu sangat radioaktif. Dinamai pada 1829 untuk merefleksikan konten toriumnya. Torit ditemukan pada 1828 di pulau Løvøya, Norwegia,oleh vikaris dan mineralogis, Hans Morten Thrane Esmark, yang mengirim spesimen pertama dari mineral hitam ini kepada ayahnya, Jens Esmark, yang adalah seorang profesor mineralogi dan geologi.[1][2][3]
