Thomas Luckmann

Thomas Luckmann (14 Oktober 1927 – 10 Mei 2016) adalah seorang sosiolog dari Slovenia yang mengajar di Jerman. Kontribusinya sangat penting dalam kajian sosiologi komunikasi, sosiologi pengetahuan, sosiologi agama, dan filsafat ilmu. Ia merupakan tokoh utama dalam pengembangan ilmu sosial pasca perang, terutama di bidang filsafat dan sosiologi.[1]

Kehidupan

Luckmann terlahir dengan nama Tomaž Luckmann di kota Jesenice yang ketika itu merupakan bagian dari Kerajaan Yugoslavia. Ayahnya merupakan seorang industrialis yang berasal dari Austria dan ibunya berasal dari Ljubljana. Keluarganya merupakan keluarga bilingual yang berbicara Bahasa Slovenia dan Bahasa Jerman. Ia mendapatkan pendidikan sosiologisnya dari Universitas Vienna dan Universitas Inssbruck, juga dari New School for Social Research di Kota New York.[1] Ia juga pernah mendapatkan gelar doktor kehormatan dari Universitas Linköping, Swedia.
