Awaous melanocephalus, ikan sruwet, adalah spesies ikan bekut yang berasal dari sungai air tawar dan sungai di India, Sri Lanka, Kepulauan Ryukyu, Tiongkok, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Filipina, Indonesia, Papua Nugini, dan Kepulauan Solomon. Beberapa saran telah dicatat dari kepulauan Fiji dan Mauritius, tetapi belum dikonfirmasi.[3] Di pulau Jawa, ikan sruwet umum menjadi ikan konsumsi , ia diolah menjadi ikan asin atau hanya sekadar digoreng-tepung sebagai pelengkap makanan.
Ikan dewasa menghuni sungai air tawar dengan air jernih, dan dasar berlumpur. Ini sekitar 15 cm (5,9 in) panjangnya.
