Sargocentron adalah genus ikan dalam famili Holocentridae yang ditemukan di bagian tropis Samudera Hindia, Pasifik, dan Atlantik, dengan keanekaragaman spesies terbesar di dekat terumbu karang perairan Indo-Pasifik.[2] Sebagian besar atau seluruhnya aktif di malam hari. Anggitanya memiliki mata yang relatif besar. Warna tubuhnya didominasi warna merah dan keperakan. Duri preoperkel (dekat bukaan insang) berbisa dan dapat menimbulkan luka yang menyakitkan.[3][4] Kebanyakan spesiesnya mempunyai panjang maksimum 15–25 cm, tetapi S. iota hampir tidak mencapai panjang 8 cm dan S. spiniferum dapat mencapai panjang lebih dari 50 cm.[2]
