SN 1997bs adalah supernova tipe II subluminous yang terjadi di galaksi spiral antara Messier 66, sekitar 31 juta tahun cahaya dari Bumi, pada April 1997. Bintang progenitor yang menghasilkan supernova ini adalah variabel biru terang masif yang mirip dengan bintang Eta Carinae. Bintang ini tidak berasosiasi dengan wilayah H II atau bintang masif terdekat lainnya. Ada kemungkinan bahwa bintang yang menghasilkan SN 1997bs selamat dari ledakan tersebut dan tersembunyi di dalam selubung debu tebal dengan massa sekitar 1 massa matahari.[1][2]

SN 1997bs adalah supernova pertama yang ditemukan oleh Lick Observatory Supernova Search (LOSS).[1]
