Respirosit


Respirosit adalah sel darah merah buatan hipotetis yang dimaksudkan untuk meniru fungsi sel darah merah, sehingga bisa melengkapi atau menggantikan fungsi banyak sistem pernapasan normal tubuh manusia. Respirosit diusulkan oleh Robert A. Freitas Jr dalam makalahnya pada tahun 1998 "Sel Darah Merah Buatan Mekanik: Desain Eksplorasi dalam Nanoteknologi Medis".[1]

Respirosit adalah contoh dari teknologi nano molekuler, bidang teknologi yang masih dalam tahap pengembangan paling awal, dan murni bersifat hipotetis. Teknologi saat ini tidak cukup untuk membangun respirosit karena pertimbangan kekuatan, manipulasi skala atom, reaksi kekebalan atau toksisitas, komputasi dan komunikasi.
