Provora adalah sebuah supergrup eukariot yang terdiri atas mikroba pemangsa, dengan nama yang berarti kurang lebih “protista yang melahap dengan rakus”. Dilaporkan bahwa sepuluh strain berhasil diisolasi dan dikultur pada tahun 2022. Organisme-organisme ini merupakan predator bagi mikroorganisme lain. Penemuan mereka tertunda sangat lama dibandingkan mikroba lain di habitat yang sama, disebabkan oleh kelangkaannya. RNA ribosom 18S mereka sangat berbeda dari eukariot lain, menunjukkan bahwa mereka mewakili garis keturunan tanpa kerabat dekat yang diketahui. Hal ini kemudian dikonfirmasi melalui analisis filogenomik terhadap kumpulan data yang mencakup ratusan protein, sehingga mereka ditempatkan secara taksonomi dalam supergrup tersendiri.[1][2]
