Propfan

Propfan adalah jenis mesin pesawat yang berhubungan dengan konsep turboprop dan turbofan, tetapi berbeda dari keduanya. Mesin menggunakan turbin gas untuk menggerakkan sebuah unshielded baling-baling seperti turboprop, tetapi baling-baling itu sendiri dirancang dengan sejumlah besar pendek, pisau yang sangat bengkok, mirip dengan kompresor bypass turbofan ini.

Konsep propfan pertama kali diungkapkan oleh Carl Rohrbach dan Bruce Metzger dari Hamilton Standard Division of United Technologies pada tahun 1975.[1] dan dipatenkan oleh Robert Cornell dan Carl Rohrbach dari Hamilton Standard pada tahun 1979.[2]
