Notacanthiformes adalah suatu ordo dari ikan bersirip kipas yang hidup di perairan laut dengan kedalaman 120-4.900 meter. Anggota-anggota dari ordo ini memiliki bentuk tubuh yang memanjang, meskipun tidak sepanjang kelompok sidat. Kelompok ini memiliki kebiasaan makan yang bervariasi: beberapa spesies merupakan pemakan detritus, sedangkan beberapa spesies yang lain merupakan predator hewan bentik.[1] Hewan yang menjadi mangsa adalah hewan yang bergerak lambat atau sesil, seperti spons, moluska, dan anemon laut.

Kelompok ini memiliki fase larva leptosefalus seperti anggota Elopomorpha pada umumnya. Akan tetapi, larva pada ordo ini dapat mencapai ukuran yang sangat besar hingga 2 meter sebelum mengecil saat mengalami metamorfosis.[2]
