Nitrosococcus adalah genus dari bakteri Gram-negatif.[4] Ini merupakan bakteri pengoksidasi amonia yang mengoksidasi amonia menjadi nitrit. Nitrosococcus dapat ditemukan di lingkungan laut dan danau garam.[1]

Nitrosoccocus memiliki sel berbentuk bulat. Bakteri ini tidak menghasilkan zoogloeae dan tidak bergerak (non-motil).[5]
