Navicula adalah genus ganggang berbentuk kapal, kelompok ini adalah makhluk air, eukariotik, dapat berfotosintesis, berukuran mulai dari sebuah sel tunggal.

Navicula adalah diatom. Navicula terdiri dari lebih dari 1.200 spesies.[1] Navicula adalah bahasa Latin bermakna "kapal kecil".[2]

Navicula memainkan peran penting dalam ekologi global, yang memproduksi sekitar seperempat dari semua oksigen di dalam biosfer Bumi dan berperan sebagai spesies kunci dalam rantai makanan dari berbagai lingkungan di mana mereka memberikan makanan pokok untuk banyak spesies akuatik.

Mobilitas

Navicula dikenal karena kemampuan mereka untuk merayap pada satu sama lain dan pada permukaan yang keras seperti kaca mikroskop.[3][4][5][6]
