Mitopeia

Mitopeia (bahasa Yunani: μυθοποιία, translit. muthopoiía, har. 'pembuatan mitos') atau mitopesis, adalah subgenre dari karya fiksi spekulatif, dan suatu tema dalam sastra dan film masa kini, menampilkan mitologi rekaan atau fiktif yang dibuat oleh penulis prosa, puisi, atau bentuk sastra lainnya. Konsep tersebut dipopulerkan oleh J. R. R. Tolkien pada tahun 1930-an, meskipun fenomena ini sudah ada sebelumnya. Para penulis genre tersebut mengintegrasikan tema dan arketipe dari mitologi tradisional ke dalam karya fiksi. Mitopeia juga dapat dikatakan sebagai pembuatan mitologi.[1]

Istilah 'mitopeia' (mythopoeia) berasal dari bahasa Yunani Koine muthopoiía (μυθοποιία), artinya 'pembuatan mitologi'; bentuk alternatifnya ialah mythopoesis (μυθοποίησις) yang memiliki arti sama.[2] Definisi mythopoeia sebagai "menciptakan suatu mitos" pertama kali tercatat pada 1846.[1][3] Pada awalnya, itu bermakna pembuatan mitos pada zaman purba.[4]
