Messier 82 (dikenal juga dengan NGC 3034, galaksi cerutu atau M82) merupakan prototipe[5] galaksi semburan bintang terdekat yang berjarak sekitar 12 juta tahun cahaya pada rasi bintang Ursa mayor. Galaksi ini memiliki Luminositas lima kali lebih besar dibandingkan seluruh Galaksi Bima Sakti, dan seratus kali lebih besar dibanding pusat Galaksi Bima Sakti.[5] Aktivitas semburan bintang kemungkinan dipicu oleh interaksi dengan galaksi tetangga M81, dan M82 merupakan anggota dari Grup M81.

Pada 21 Januari 2014 telah terobservasi adanya supernova tipe Ia yang diberi nama SN 2014J terjadi di galaksi ini.[6][7][8]
