Messier 47 (dikenal jug sebagai gugus terbuka 47 atau NGC 2422) adalah sebuah gugus terbuka di rasi bintang Puppis. M47 ditemukan oleh Giovanni Batista Hodierna sebelum tahun 1654, dan ditemukan kembali oleh Charles Messier pada 19 Februari 1771.

Sebenarnya tidak ada gugus pada posisi yang ditunjukkan oleh Messier, yang dia nyatakan menurut asensio rekta dan deklinasi yang berhubungan dengan binang Puppis. Namun jika koordinat yang ditunjukkan Messier diubah, akan tepat pada posisi NGC 2422.[1]

M47 berjarak sekitar 1,600 tahun cahaya dari bumi dengan perkiraan umur 78 juta tahun. Ada sekitar 50 bintang di dalam gugus ini, dan bintang yang paling terang memiliki magnitudo semu +5.7
