Mene merupakan satu-satunya genus ikan yang masih ada dari famili Menidae (Keluarga Ikan Ani-ani). Spesies anggotanya berbentuk cakram, dan memiliki sirip perut yang seperti benang seperti halnya pada sebagian ikan dalam keluarga gurami. Sekarang genus ini hanya terdiri dari satu spesies saja, yakni Mene maculata (Ikan ani-ani), yang berasal dari lautan Indo-Pasifik. Ikan tersebut merupakan salah satu ikan konsumsi yang populer.[2]
