Lyons Forum

Forum Lyons adalah kelompok atau faksi politik informal yang terdiri dari beberapa anggota federal dari partai-partai parlemen konservatif Australia. Forum ini dibentuk pada awal 1990-an dan aktif dalam konflik kepemimpinan parlemen Partai Liberal Australia maupun isu-isu kebijakan keluarga. Faksi ini terkadang disebut "The God Squad" (Pasukan Tuhan) dengan nada merendahkan.[1][2] Pada tahun 2004, Michelle Grattan menggambarkannya sebagai "tidak berfungsi".[3]

Formasi

Lyons Forum dibentuk pada tahun 1992 oleh sekelompok anggota parlemen Koalisi, termasuk Senator John Herron, Senator Eric Abetz, Senator John Tierney, Alan Cadman, John Bradford, Chris Miles, Kevin Andrews dan John Forrest.[4] Nama kelompok tersebut merujuk pada slogan yang digunakan oleh mantan anggota parlemen Dame Enid Lyons: "Fondasi kebesaran suatu bangsa terletak di rumah-rumah rakyatnya". Organisasi tersebut memiliki banyak anggota Kristen yang aktif, dan telah digambarkan sebagai "faksi Kristen fundamentalis Koalisi".[5] Akan tetapi, meskipun para pengamatnya telah memperhatikan hubungan dekat antara para anggotanya dengan kelompok Kristen konservatif dan teologi, tidak ada hubungan formal yang terjalin.[4][6]

Peran

Faksi ini diduga memainkan peran penting dalam kebangkitan kekuatan politik John Howard di Partai Liberal Australia pada pertengahan 1990an. Hal ini juga menonjol dalam perdebatan tentang kebijakan pajak terkait keluarga, serta isu kebijakan lain terkait keluarga, perkawinan, dan seksualitas.[7]
