Lipoatrofi adalah istilah yang menggambarkan hilangnya jaringan adiposa secara lokal. Hal ini dapat terjadi sebagai akibat dari suntikan insulin subkutan dalam pengobatan diabetes melitus, dari penggunaan hormon pertumbuhan manusia atau dari suntikan glatiramer asetat subkutan yang digunakan untuk pengobatan sklerosis multipel. Dalam kasus terakhir, suntikan dapat menghasilkan lekukan kecil di tempat suntikan.[1] Lipoatrofi terjadi pada lipodistrofi terkait HIV, salah satu penyebabnya adalah reaksi obat yang merugikan yang terkait dengan beberapa obat antiretroviral.[2]

Istilah yang lebih umum untuk kondisi abnormal atau degeneratif dari seluruh jaringan adiposa tubuh adalah "lipodistrofi".
