Linalool mengacu pada dua enansiomer dari alkohol terpen yang terjadi secara alami yang ditemukan di banyak bunga dan tanaman rempah-rempah.[1] Ini memiliki beberapa aplikasi komersial, yang sebagian besar didasarkan pada aroma yang menyenangkan (bunga, dengan sentuhan kepedasan). Ia memiliki nama lain seperti β-linalool, linalyl alkohol, linaloyl ksida, allo-osimenol, dan 3,7-dimethyl-1,6-octadien-3-ol.[1]

Lebih dari 200 spesies tanaman menghasilkan linalool, terutama dari famili Lamiaceae (mint dan herbal lainnya), Lauraceae (salam, kayu manis, rosewood), dan Rutaceae (buah jeruk), tetapi juga pohon birch dan tanaman lain, dari zona iklim tropis ke boreal, termasuk jamur.
