William Hal Ashby (2 September 1929 – 27 Desember 1988)[1] adalah seorang sutradara dan editor film Amerika.[2][3] Karyanya menggambarkan sikap kontra-budaya pada masa itu. Ia menyutradarai berbagai film yang menampilkan penampilan ikonik. Ia dikaitkan dengan gelombang perfilman New Hollywood dengan para sineas seperti Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Mike Nichols, dan Sidney Lumet.
Sebelum kariernya sebagai sutradara, Ashby menyunting film untuk Norman Jewison, terutama The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming (1966), yang membuat Ashby mendapatkan nominasi Oscar untuk Penyuntingan Terbaik, dan In the Heat of the Night (1967), yang membuatnya mendapatkan satu-satunya Oscar untuk kategori yang sama.
