Ghoul

Ghoul adalah mayat hidup atau roh jahat dalam mitologi Arab. Istilah ini pertama kali digunakan dalam literatur bahasa Inggris pada tahun 1786, pada novel orientalisme karya William Beckford yang berjudul Vathek.[1]

Etimologi

Ghoul berasal dari bahasa Arab غول ghūl (asal kata غال ghala) yang berarti "untuk merebut".[2] Kata tersebut juga memiliki hubungan dengan Gallu, yaitu merupakan demon dari Mesopotamia.[3][4]

Budaya populer

Dalam permainan video horor Amnesia: Rebirth (2020), ghoul adalah salah satu musuh yang ditemui sepanjang permainan; muncul sebagai makhluk yang dulunya manusia, tetapi berubah menjadi monster.
