Epicaridea adalah mantan subordo isopoda, sekarang diperlakukan sebagai bagian dari subordo Cymothoida.[1] Mereka ektoparasit yang menghuni krustasea lainnya, yaitu ostracoda, copepoda, teritip dan malacostraca. Subordo ditemukan secara global. Tentang 704 spesies telah direkam. Epicaridea umumnya kurang baik diteliti dari isopoda lainnya.[2]

Ada tingkat tinggi dimorfisme seksual dalam ordo. Betina umumnya sangat asimetris, sering kehilangan segmentasi. Dua pasang antena rudimenter ada di kepala. Mulut menunjukkan perkembangan kecil, dengan hanya mandibula dan maksillieped, kadang-kadang dengan pasangan kedua maksila dasar. Jantan berukuran lebih kecil daripada betina dan penampilan yang berbeda. Perkembangan adalah melalui metamorfosis regresif, menjalani dua atau tiga tahap larva.[3]
