Demagog atau Demagogue /ˈdɛməɡɒɡ/ (dari δημαγωγός, pemimpin populer, pemimpin massa, dari δῆμος, populasi, ἀγωγός memimpin)[1] atau perusuh[2] adalah istilah yang digunakan oleh beberapa orang Athena untuk menunjuk politikus yang muncul di kota itu setelah kematian Perikles. Istilah ini biasanya berkonotasi negatif dan menunjukkan bahwa pria dengan karakteristik ini hanya tertarik dalam kesejahteraan mereka, tidak seperti politikus sejati, yang peduli dengan kesejahteraan negara. Berbeda dengan kata "demagogue" saat ini, kata itu kadang-kadang digunakan dalam arti netral. Demagogue membalikkan norma-norma perilaku politik yang telah mapan, atau berjanji atau mengancam akan melakukannya.
