Bulgar
Bulgar (juga disebut Bolgar atau proto-Bulgaria) adalah suku semi-nomaden, kemungkinan keturunan Bangsa Turkik,[1] awalnya berasal dari Asia Tengah, yang sejak abad ke-2 dan seterusnya tinggal di sebelah utara Kaukasus dan sekitar tepi sungai Volga (lalu Itil). Suku ini secara mendasar berhubungan dengan suku Hun. Cabang dari mereka mendirikan Kekaisaran Bulgaria Pertama. Pada abad ke-7 mereka mendirikan dua negara di padang stepa Pontic-Kaspia: Bulgaria Raya, dan Bulgaria Volga di wilayah yang sekarang bagian dari Tatarstan.
Pada saat ini masyarakat modern yang mengklaim keturunan Bulgar adalah Tatar Volga, Chuvash, Balkar dan Bulgaria.
