Andreaea adalah sebuah genus lumut batu yang dideskripsikan oleh Johann Hedwig pada tahun 1801.[1][2][3]

Mereka adalah lumut kecil dan halus bertipe akrokarpus (artinya kapsul spora terbentuk di ujung cabang-cabang vertikal) yang membentuk bantalan berwarna cokelat tua atau kemerahan pada batuan silika yang basah di daerah pegunungan. Kapsulnya tidak memiliki gigi peristom maupun operkulum (tudungan) seperti pada lumut lainnya, dan membuka dengan cara terbelah menjadi 4 celah vertikal, dengan keempat katup tetap menyatu di bagian pangkal dan ujung. Kapsul Andreaea tidak memiliki seta, tetapi sporofitnya (Spf pada diagram di bawah) justru ditopang oleh pseudopodium (ps) yang berasal dari jaringan gametofit, seperti pada Sphagnum, dan kolumela berada di dalam sporangium. Spora berkecambah membentuk protonema bertalus.[4][5][6][7][8]
